"Real Land"

Tonight at the library, one of the librarians were gushing over my children. "Your children are just beautiful!!!"

"Thank you," I responded.

"And especially that little girl!! She looks just like you!! And those eyes!!"

Huh. I think I need to cut Israel's hair.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only mom out there who can get really frustrated and stressed out by some stages that my children get in. Feel free to tell me if I'm not alone. Israel is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right now - he is SO. INCREDIBLY. FUSSY. ALL. DAY. LONG. I am so glad when he wakes up with a chirp, because when he wakes with a cry and a whine....I know it's going to be a loooooonnnngggg day. He will fuss for a drink, and then fuss because the milk is not juice or the water is not milk. He fusses a LOT over his drink choices. His problem is that if he can see food, he NEEEEEDS.. And from breakfast, he moves on to fussing about videos or outside or diaper or anything and everything. He has very definite opinions on things and cannot always communicate them and it frustrates him greatly.

And then once Gabe is up and around and they have their little boy squabbles and somebody is always getting hurt - that's another thing that drives me insane. When it's been a long day and I'm ready for them to be in bed already, and they are in that crazy-feeding-off-each-other-bouncing-wrestling-grabbing-giggling-falling mood where someone is GUARANTEED to get hurt ABSOLUTELY....oh man. They were up extra late last evening because Israel had a late nap and then this morning when Israel was on his fuss-rant and Gabe was up and grouchy and screeching at Israel - I realized my shoulders were tight and tensed and I was feeling QUITE crabby. I gave myself a little pep-talk, but still had a hard time relaxing.

Sheesh. Calm yourself, lady.

It always helps after days like that if I can make a mini-escape when Tim gets home. Otherwise, I'm not always too pepped for the next duration of child care.

The other night, I was just so tired all day, and I was glancing wearily at the clock by the end of the day and just sort of wishing there was a time clock to go punch out on, and then I go wave goodbye and go home to a quiet house and climb in a nice hot bath and lay down with a good book and be asleep by 9:30 PM, which is unheard of for me.

The other part of the problem is that the boys have been getting to bed later recently because of different summer activities, and that leaves less sanity-time at the end of the day.

Anywho. That's life in this mommy's real land over here.

funny that I should read this as my boys are having at least their 3rd fight of the morning and its barely 0800 :). Oh, did I mention that Brian has done pretty much nothing but fuss since he woke up? Yup. . .I'm certainly feeling your pain this morning. Well, my coffee has finished brewing and my foggy brain is in desperate needof some clearing :). Here's to a better day!! Janice

Sigh of relief. :)

Hmmm. . . it sounds like life with two little boys is very similar in northern IL, AL, and DE. :)

I know how you feel. Matt is out of control when he gets home from work

My kids get super-fussy if they don't have enough sleep either. Some days I lock myself in the bathroom for 5 or 10 minutes, just to help me make it to naptime. ( :

Yep, sounds familiar except with slight age differences. What gets me on edge the most is when both boys are crying at the same time and Vincent is either hungry or tired and won't be put down or else he screams louder, and Elliot wants to be held too, and I need to find some creative solution amidst the cries and frazzled nerves! Life in mommy's worlds can produce strands of white hairs somedays!!!

Sounds pretty real to me! Except my version is slightly more
girl-ish- which means there's less flambouyant energy, but more drama queen-type emotion. I try REALLY hard to believe people when they tell me, "Oh, it goes so quickly, they'll soon be grown." I have yet to experience that! =) Angelina

Sounds like typical
mom-dom to me. I've only got one and she's still enough to drive me batty some days.

Ann Marie - it would be fun to have a "little boy party" with these little boy families. I hope your next one (? if you have another) is a boy too, purely for selfish reasons on my behalf, so I don't feel so alone in the world of balanced gender families. :)

Isaiah - HEY!!! I didn't know you had a blog! Thanks for the empathy. :) So sorry about Matt... :)

Chester - what a good idea...hmmm. I might have to start doing that. I instead go into this mental "zone" where everything is falling on deaf, deaf ears.

Sylvia - oh, I often think of you and scold myself that I have nothing to complain about. :) I can only imagine what life must be like at those times. I'm glad Elliot is walking now, at least!!

Angelina - I know, despite how much you remind yourself, sometimes you just can't see how you would really want anything MORE than for some kids to grow up a little bit more. :)

Joy - Hey, that Alana is a cutie pie!! I can't believe how much she has grown. Glad to hear my battiness is shared... :)
